VIC Flood Watch: East Gippsland and Parts of West Gippsland

Flood Watch Number: 1

Minor flooding is likely from Tuesday afternoon in the catchments of East Gippsland and parts of West Gippsland. Isolated moderate flooding is possible in the far East.

A strong cold front will move over eastern Victoria early on Tuesday bringing heavy rain.

Catchments in East Gippsland are relatively wet after rain last week.

Rainfall totals of 100 mm are forecast for East Gippsland on Tuesday, with 30 - 60 mm forecast for central Gippsland.

Minor flooding is likely to develop from Tuesday afternoon in the catchments of East Gippsland and parts of West Gippsland. Isolated moderate flooding is possible in the far East.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Bemm, Cann and Genoa Rivers
Snowy River
Tambo River
Mitchell River
Avon River
Macalister River(Upstream of Lake Glenmaggie only)
Thomson River

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings as required.

Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater, Never allow children to play in floodwater, Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain, Keep well clear of fallen power lines Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
