Severe thunderstorm moving over Brisbane towards the Gold Coast

Weather Situation: Isolated squall thunderstorm activity over southeast Queensland ahead of an upper trough amplifying over the southern inland.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:50 am, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Laidley, Rosewood, Hatton Vale, Marburg, Lowood and Fernvale. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Ipswich, Beaudesert, Logan City, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert and Highvale by 1:20 am and Coolangatta, Beenleigh, Cleveland, Dunwich, Peel Island and Wynnum by 1:50 am.

Damaging winds are likely.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
