Severe thunderstorm north of Toowoomba moving east

Weather Situation: Isolated thunderstorm activity over southeast Queensland ahead of an upper trough amplifying over the southern inland.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:40 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area north of Toowoomba and Crows Nest. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Gatton, the area west of Esk and the area northwest of Esk by 12:10 am and Laidley, Esk and the area south of Esk by 12:40 am.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. Accumulations of small hail are also possible.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
